Plane Crash - Empire State Building

On July 28, 1945 3 pilots flying a B-25 in conditions of low visibility
haphazardly slammed into the 79th floor of the Empire State Building in Manhattan.
The impact killed 11 workers including the 3 pilots and injured 26.
It left a hole in the building 18 feet wide by 20 feet high.
The structural integrity was not compromised by the accident.
When compared to the 9/11 disaster,
was this another case of "they don't build em' like they used to",
or did the towers collapse due to sources not yet acknowledged?
